When will you have puppies available?
Our breeding plans will be posted on our planned litters page when we make them. Breeding depends on a large number of factors, and we do not expect to have many or frequent litters (Females cycle 1-2 times per year, and there is no guarantee that a breeding will take). We are planning for one litter every 1-2 years at most. A typical Kai Ken litter has 3-5 puppies.
How do I get on your waitlist?
We do not have a waitlist exactly, but keep a list of all interested parties. In order to be considered for a potential puppy, you will need to fill out a new owner questionnaire first.
Homes are picked based on best fit, not by the order you contact us. We will update our website and Instagram once a breeding occurs and when a pregnancy is confirmed. We will reach out to our interest list and confirm who is still interested or if their circumstances have changed. Homes will be chosen for puppies based on questionnaire answers, Zoom/in-person interview, and family dynamics. Matches will be made by 6-7 weeks old when puppies are formally evaluated. At this time a deposit will be collected, and a contract signed. The remainder of the puppy fee will be due when the puppy is picked up. We do not ship puppies.
How much are they?
We aren’t breeding for profit. Our puppy prices are based on the direct costs necessary to complete the health testing on both parents, vaccinations, enrichment, and care of the litter. The total cost will vary per litter, so the amount won’t be known until puppy homes are chosen. However, our prices will be comparable to other breeders.
Can you guarantee a specific color puppy for me?
We can guarantee all of our puppies will meet breed standards for color. Our dogs are DNA tested so recessive color like cream/white will not occur. We cannot guarantee a specific amount of brindle in a puppy, as the genetics of brindle are not yet fully understood.
Additionally, puppies will not be placed based on color, but on temperament and the best fit for them and their family.
Pet vs Show Homes
Our goal is to produce dogs that can be shown and/or worked, however pet-quality dogs can be a side effect of any breeding. Puppies with obvious show disqualifications will be placed on spay/neuter contracts. But we would prefer potential owners be open to the idea of keeping a dog intact for breed preservation as well as proper growth and development of the individual.
There is no difference in cost for puppies designated as pets vs show/breeding, as the costs that go into raising them are the same.
